Art Therapy One-on-One:
In addition to our vibrant art social groups, the Hope Center offers personalized one-on-one art therapy sessions for children who thrive with this tailored approach. These individual sessions provide a supportive space for creativity, allowing each child to explore and express themselves at their own pace.
Just like in our group sessions, students will explore a wide range of art skills, starting with the basics like shape and color, and moving on to more complex concepts such as space and texture. They’ll have the chance to get hands-on with a diverse array of materials—from paper and paint to pottery—making every session a fun and creative adventure.
Our art classes not only help children enhance their artistic skills and unleash their creativity, but they also provide an excellent opportunity to refine fine motor skills. These skills involve small, precise movements that can be particularly challenging for many autistic children, who often need extra practice to master them. In our classes, we emphasize key areas such as hand-eye coordination—using small tools while focusing on visual cues—along with precision and control for delicate finger movements. We also work on grasping and manipulation to strengthen grip and dexterity, and finger isolation to develop the ability to move individual fingers with ease. It’s all about building confidence and capability through art.
Our instructor, Samantha Lee is a trained ABA therapist with many years of experience working with autistic children. In addition, she has an advanced background in the arts, having a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Arts Institute of Chicago. With this rare combination of skills in both therapy and the arts, Samantha is perfectly equipped to guide children through the program, fostering their creativity while supporting their social and emotional development. Her compassionate and artistic approach creates a safe, engaging environment where children can grow both socially and artistically.
